Tune the Violin strings

Whenever you play, it is vital to ascertain that your instrument is in tune. You can use the Piano for tuning or use a tuning device. You could also download a tuner on your Smartphone. Search the right tones by the strings (G, D, A, E). Always start with the A string. Pluck the A string and listen carefully. Then you listen to the tone A of the tuning device. If your A string doesn’t sound the same as the one on the tuning device, it means it is out of tune. Your string sound may be higher of lower. If the difference in the tone of the string is a lot, you need to use the pegs. A small difference will best require fine tuners. Easier still, you could download a Violin tuner App on your Smartphone. This is easier to use, especially for the non-experienced person, since the tuner does not require you to have accurate pitch listening skills. Needless to say, your Smartphone can make a lot of things easier for you while learning the Violin.

Have you been told that it’s hard to learn the violin? Perceptions vary; some people also think it is easy to learn. Truth be told, it can be challenging at times, but do not be intimidated. With a good teacher from Nairobi’s best school in violin training, practice, and perseverance, you can learn violin to a pro level.

Everyone has a hard time with some aspect of learning the violin, but there are ways to work through your struggles and become a better player. Here are some technical factors you will need to gradually master to become a great violinist.

Posture

With the violin, there are several different things to coordinate with your posture. It’s a challenge for beginners to hold everything correctly.

Improve

In the early stages, make several guided attempts and our tutor will help you do it right. Practice each part of your posture separately. Practice your bow grip five times in a row, and take a break between each round.

Practice between your chin and shoulder to hold the violin, without supporting it with your left hand. From there, practice bringing your left hand to the playing position, and try to relax your body.

Hand Coordination

With the notes fingered with the left, violinists struggle to match their bowing.

Improve

To improve your coordination, practice bowing slowly, back and forth between two notes. Move back and forth on different strings between two notes.

If the bows aren’t matching up with the changing notes, determine which hand is getting to the new note first, and then adjust your other hand to match.

Tone Quality

Your bowing technique is very important in determining the quality of your tone. You need to work on your bowing skills to enrich your tone.

Improve

Several factors affect your tone; these are bow speed, bowing angle and bow pressure. A mirror can help you check if your bow is moving parallel to the bridge.

Bow speed and pressure: the more pressure you use, the faster your bow has to move to avoid a scratch sound. Light pressure on the bow will need you to move your bow slower, else the tone will sound light and whispery.
